Return Travel

Kayak tour guests and expedition participants are requested to make return travel arrangements for the afternoon of the day following the trip, or later.  It is generally best to reserve accommodation in Sandspit for the last night of your kayak trip, as you will likely return late on the last day.

On most trips, returning kayakers can easily make the morning flight departing Sandspit on the day after their kayak trip.  However; weather or other factors may delay the speedboat transport at the end of a trip.  If the speedboat is significantly delayed, the next-morning flight may become too tight to achieve.

Lengthy speedboat delays are rare, but Air Canada's medium-sized planes servicing Sandspit can be fully booked; there is not always space available to allow switching flights on short notice.  You may prefer to avoid the potential stress of tight travel connections by choosing an afternoon departure from Sandspit, instead of reserving the morning flight.

After several days in the wilderness, it can be pleasant to maintain a slow pace while transitioning back to civilization...

There are many things to do on Haida Gwaii, including visiting museums, beach hiking, fishing and exploring the Islands' communities.  We highly recommend the Haida Heritage Centre - a focal point of Haida culture in Skidegate.

Please see information about Sandspit arrival.
