Butterfly Tours is owned and operated through our sister company, At the Water’s Edge Adventures. We are a small, guide-led sea kayaking company built by people who are guides first and business owners second.
Our team is small in Haida Gwaiii and passionate about creating authentic wilderness experiences in one of the world's most spectacular sea kayaking destinations—Gwaii Haanas. We believe that the best way to experience this remarkable place is to slow down, travel by kayak and spend time immersed in the landscapes, wildlife and cultural history that make Haida Gwaii so extraordinary.
Butterfly Tours is owned and operated by experienced, professionally certified sea kayak guides through the Sea Kayak Guides Alliance of BC. Our owners and guides bring decades of experience leading expeditions and working in remote coastal environments, with a shared commitment to professional guiding, thoughtful risk management and exceptional guest experiences.
While we provide premium equipment, comfortable camps and exceptional meals, our focus remains firmly on authentic adventure. We believe in experiencing the coast as closely and respectfully as possible—paddling remote shorelines, camping on wild beaches and waking up surrounded by the coastal temperate rainforest.
Our passion for Haida Gwaii extends far beyond our guided expeditions. During their personal time, our guides regularly plan their own kayaking trips with friends to explore different parts of Haida Gwaii simply because they love being on the water.
These personal expeditions allow our guides to continue exploring new coastlines, refine their skills and deepen their knowledge of the islands. The experiences and discoveries they gain—from finding spectacular campsites and hidden beaches to exploring new stretches of coastline—help build the local knowledge and passion they bring back to their guided expeditions.
